Shinji had come to work with him after all, and Kippei had been relieved and amused and a little dismayed to find that he'd been right, and Shinji was something of a hero, and he'd been patted on the back and offered cookies from someone's lunch and told more embarrassing stories about Kippei than Kippei had known existed, and in general the lot of them had been very entertained. At Kippei's expense, which Kippei didn't actually mind as long as everyone was having fun.

Kippei was pretty sure that Shinji had been okay with it after all, that he'd had fun too, but he hadn't had a chance to talk to him about it before Shinji had to leave for work, so he didn't know. And Shinji was working late, so he wouldn't see him when he went home, either. Shinji wasn't staying at his house all the time anymore, only sometimes, and on nights that he worked he generally went back to his own apartment, and Kippei wasn't going to see him again until... well, who knew.

He worked late so he could avoid thinking about it and how restless it made him feel, rather annoying really how big a part of his life Shinji had become, but he didn't really want it to change. He knew now what Shinji had meant when he said he wanted Kippei there all the time, and he agreed completely. Shinji was his, end of story, and he should always be there.

He was tired when he finally locked up and went home, and he had driven halfway to Shinji's house before he realised that he hadn't gone 'home'. He'd messaged Annie awhile ago to let her know he was working late, and now he hesitated a bit before he finally pulled out his phone and sent her another message to let her know he was going to be at Shinji's. Yeah, because that was just such a wonderful idea to turn up there and be there when Shinji got home.

Except he didn't have keys. He pulled in at the apartment building and stared up at it, wishing his subconscious had more sense. At least he hadn't gone straight to the bar to see Shinji at work. At least he had some dignity left. But he was tired and the idea of driving all the way home was too much effort, so in the end he just stretched out on the front seat of his car and went to sleep until Shinji got home.

Shinji was exhausted by the time he reached his apartment. He'd danced on the bar, served a tonne of drinks and basically forgotten he had to walk home until home time actually came and he realised he hadn't saved any energy for it at all. So he dragged his feet all the way there.

He wasn't sure when he developed a Kipper-dar, but he had and as soon as he entered the carpark he knew Kippei was close. He spotted the car easily enough and wandered over, opening the door and climbing in, not bothering to say anything, just curling up on top of Kippei and ignoring the world. He wasn't going to stay there because the sun would come up and that would suck, but for just a few moments he intended to stay put.

Kippei blinked in confusion, waking up slowly and wondering why his bed felt so weird. No, not his bed, but Shinji was on top of him so that was alright. He had no idea where he was, and mumbled a question, but he was too groggy to make it coherent. He wound his fingers into Shinji's hair and tightened an arm around him, making sure he stayed put until Kippei woke up enough to figure out what was going on, and if something was wrong.

Oh wait. Car. Right. He was at Shinji's, waiting for Shinji to get home, but Shinji was obviously home.

"Hi," he muttered finally, his voice sleep rough and gravelly. "When did you get here?"

"Just now," Shinji mumbled sleepily, letting his hands stroke where they wanted now that Kippei was awake and probably wouldn't care. Or at the very least, wouldn't complain.

"How come you're out here in your car? Is there a rat in my apartment? I don't like rats..."

"I...waiting for you..." It took Kippei a minute to remember why he was waiting out here in the car instead of inside in the apartment.

"I don't have a key," he muttered, rubbing his eyes and running his hand over his hair as if it might need straightening up, although it was too short to mess up in the first place. "I forgot."

Shinji blinked at that, stumped before he realised Kippei didn't have a key because he hadn't given him one.

"....oh." He rummaged around in his pockets for a minute, finding his keys and pulling off a spare, shoving it into Kippei's pocket. "Now you do. Can we go upstairs now?"

Kippei blinked, a little stunned. He hadn't been expecting that, for some reason. Shinji had just handed him a key like it was nothing, like of course he should have one, and...well. He had to admit he liked having one, wanted to keep it now that he had it, but he should probably give Shinji one too and that seemed a little scary. But Shinji needed one, because Kippei definitely wanted him to be able to come over in the middle of the night to sleep with him when he got off work, too. He didn't have a spare with him now, so he didn't have to think about it, but he would have to do something about it later.

"Uh. Thanks," he managed, still a little bemused. He sat up and looked around, remembering they were still in the car and it really wasn't all that comfortable, especially for two people. "Yeah, let's go."

Shinji sighed because that meant getting up, but he really wanted to snuggle into all his pillows on his bed and preferably, snuggle Kippei as well, so he got up reluctantly and crawled back out of the car, holding out a hand for Kippei, to help him get out, though he didn't intend on letting go once he had hold.

"Did you miss me?" Why else would Kippei show up at his apartment. But he wanted Kippei to say yes.

Kippei groaned and sighed. Did they have to play this game every time? Why did Shinji always have to hear the goddamn words?

"I wanted to see you," he muttered as he took Shinji's hand, linking their fingers absentmindedly as he slammed the car door shut, and followed Shinji up to the front door.

Really, that should be admission enough for any man. He was tempted to say something mean, but he didn't want to fight right now because they were both tired and Shinji had only just gotten here and couldn't they just go to bed?

Shinji grinned, because that was good enough. From Kippei that was an I missed you being stubborn and needing to sound like something else, but Shinji still knew what it really meant.

"I missed you too," Shinji smirked, leaning up to kiss his cheek as he tugged him through the door, kicking it shut and already pulling his shirt off, tossing it aside as he wandered into the bathroom. He wanted a quick shower to get the smoke off, hell yes he did.

Kippei snorted softly, not sure whether he was amused or annoyed. You were only gone for eight hours. He really didn't think it counted as missing anyone when they were only gone part of the day. He was sure it required at least the 48 hour period set by the law before it counted as missing.

In spite of which some stupid little squishy part of him liked hearing Shinji say that he had missed him, even if it was ridiculous to think that it was true. He decided not to argue in favor of pulling his own clothes off and dropping them wearily on the floor before he followed Shinji into the shower.

Shinji dropped his jeans on the bathroom floor and walked into the shower, turning it on and leaning sleepily against the wall, letting the water rush down his back and soak through his hair, finally smelling the smoke scent fade away, replaced by clean, clear water.

"Mmmm....I wanna sleep in the shower," he grumbled. "How come I can't breathe underwater?"

From: [identity profile] shattermelt.livejournal.com
Kippei shrugged, amused in spite of the fact that he felt too fucking tired even to smile, but the corner of his mouth twitched anyway.

"You're not a fish," he mumbled, leaning his shoulder against the wall beside Shinji and tugging him forward, just a little, to lean against him. He sighed, and it sounded a little like relief, not that he was paying attention. "Don't fall asleep. The water will get cold."

"....Not for a while," Shinji mumbled, looping his arms over Kippei's shoulders and hanging off of him for a few minutes before he sighed and grabbed the shampoo, quickly washing his hair to make sure the smoke smell was one hundred percent gone. He hated sleeping when stuff stank. Only when he was satisfied it was gone did he turn again to slump against Kippei, letting his head fall back on Kippei's shoulder and closing his eyes as the water fell on his face. Yeah, he could definitely sleep like that.

Kippei smiled tiredly, amused again at Shinji trying to fall asleep in the shower, but after a minute he tugged Shinji upright again and pushed him gently out.

"Go crash," he told him, reaching for the soap. "I need to wash up, I'll be right there." He moved as quickly as he could, though his hands seemed to keep slowing down of their own accord as his tired mind drifted back toward sleep. But it still didn't take long to get the day's sweat and dirt washed off, and then he shut off the water with a grateful sigh and climbed out, looking for a towel.

Shinji had towelled dry and crawled naked into bed long before Kippei finished, buried under several layers of sheets and blankets, wrapped around a pillow that smelt like Kippei, wet hair sticking to skin and cloth alike in a webbed mass around him. He felt a million times better after having a shower and intended to just relax.

"Was work okay?" He mumbled, not sure where Kippei was or if he could even hear him.

It took less than a minute for Kippei to dry off, shut off the lights, and crawl in after Shinji. He'd vaguely registered on his way across the room that Shinji was mumbling something, but hadn't caught the words and wasn't curious. He blinked as he almost collapsed against Shinji, then gathered Shinji's hair with a clumsy hand and dragged it out of his way so he could settle in behind him, pressed against his back and tucking an arm around his waist.

"Mmmm," he mumbled, content and warm, finally able to relax and stop trying to stay awake and move and think.

Shinji sighed happily and snuggled back against him, squirming a little until he was completely comfortable.

"Did you get much done? Did the guys pick on you again? I don't have to work tomorrow night, want to me come to work with you? I'll make sandwiches!"

Date: 2007-04-30 10:37 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] shattermelt.livejournal.com
Kippei snorted with laughter. Well, that answered that question. "Come if you want," he agreed. "Sandwiches good. Had fun today? Not scary?" He was just too tired to make the effort for complete sentences.

Shinji glanced over his shoulder, stumped and flabbergasted.

"Kippei...I'm a demon! What the hell is going to scare me?" Because really, what the fuck? "I might not like things, but they're not, generally, scary."

Date: 2007-04-30 10:42 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] shattermelt.livejournal.com
"Wha'ver," Kippei mumbled, amused, because Shinji had definitely acted like he was afraid of everyone laughing at him or whatever the hell he'd been worried about. Kippei did not see the difference at all, and he didn't think the excuse was a good one, in any case.

"Y're not a...good demon," he reminded Shinji, nuzzling him a little.

From: [identity profile] ayretala.livejournal.com
"I am too a good demon!" Shinji growled, reaching back to pinch Kippei's thigh, frowning. "I'm a great demon! You like me!"

From: [identity profile] shattermelt.livejournal.com
Kippei just laughed again, a deep chuckle rumbling in his chest. "That I do," he murmured, and maybe it was that he was too tired to realise how easy he was admitting it. Liking him had nothing to do with the question of whether or not he was a good demon, of course, or whether or not he was scary. Kippei's opinion was not and not.

From: [identity profile] ayretala.livejournal.com
Shinji was a little mollified by Kippei admitting he liked him, sighing and feeling around for Kippei's arm, pulling it tighter around his waist, his own arm resting against it, fingers twined through Kippei's.

"How much do you like me? More than anyone else?"

Date: 2007-04-30 11:26 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] shattermelt.livejournal.com
"Mhmmm," Kippei mumbled, nuzzling at the back of Shinji's neck. Well, he didn't like that many people, so he supposed that was about right. Actually, he was surprised to find that it was really true. That didn't mean he wasn't still slightly embarrassed for having admitted it.

Date: 2007-04-30 11:37 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] ayretala.livejournal.com
Shinji smiled at that and lifted Kippei's hand to his mouth, nibbling on the fingers, grazing his teeth back and forth along their length and every now and then sucking the fingertips into his mouth, licking softly.

"Will you always like me more than anyone?"

From: [identity profile] shattermelt.livejournal.com
Kippei was half asleep, but he woke up a little then. His kneejerk raction was to say how the devil should he know, but he wasn't stupid enough to miss what Shinji was was really asking.

"Said I was keeping you," he reminded Shinji, and just the thought of someday Shinji not being there was enough to scare him into keeping Shinji happy, even if it meant telling him girly crap all the time. "So yeah. Mine." And since he was awake and Shinji's ear was temptingly close, he leant forward and licked it and did some nibbling.

Date: 2007-04-30 11:50 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] ayretala.livejournal.com
Shinji wanted to argue and say that Kippei couldn't keep him and that Kippei was going to die, but Kippei was licking and nibbling on his ear and Shinji was sensitive as hell, especially around the pointed tip and when he opened his mouth he moaned instead, sinking back into Kippei's hold, reaching back to stroke his neck, his cheek, anything he could reach really.

"Don't, I'm sleepy! Don't make me wanna have sex, that's mean! I'll have weird dreams."

Date: 2007-04-30 12:02 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] shattermelt.livejournal.com
Kippei chuckled lazily, but he stopped after sucking the tip of Shinji's ear one last time. He was sleepy too, and sex could wait until after sleep, although Shinji was definitely getting jumped then.

"What kind of weird dreams?" he asked curiously, wondering what the hell was bad about those kind of dreams, the kind he would have if he was all turned on and wanting sex when he went to sleep.

Date: 2007-04-30 12:05 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] ayretala.livejournal.com
"The kind that make me wonder if I'm horny or on LSD!" Shinji grumbled, sighing in relief when Kippei stopped. He was already a little hard, just from that and it was almost embarrassing how easily Kippei could turn him on. Really, Kippei just had to walk into the room.

"Don't you ever have weird dreams?"

Date: 2007-04-30 12:08 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] shattermelt.livejournal.com
"Um," Kippei said, and tried to think how to answer that. "Not like being on LSD, no," he answered finally, because he did know that and his brain wasn't coming up with anything else.

From: [identity profile] ayretala.livejournal.com
Shinji sighed. Maybe it was a demon thing, but sometimes he was sure he was in one of those sergeant peppers film clips.

"Do you have dreams about me?" Now that was a damn good question and he listened avidly for the answer.

Date: 2007-04-30 12:19 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] shattermelt.livejournal.com
Kippei was sure they'd had this conversation before. "I told you that before," he grumbled, not wanting to repeat it. It was embarrassing. Shinji was, however, practically alive with anticipation, clearly waiting for the answer, and Kippei sighed and groaned and buried his face in the back of Shinji's neck. The things he did to his pride and dignity for the sake of peace.

"All the time since new years," he mumbled.

Date: 2007-04-30 12:23 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] ayretala.livejournal.com
Shinji shook his head because he knew that, he had wanted details but Kippei was falling asleep so he let the conversation, as it were, die. Instead, he turned around so he could face Kippei, drawing him into his arms, cradling him against his chest, breathing in the smell of his hair, leaning down to lick his shoulder, tasting his skin as his eyes slid closed.

"I have good dreams about you. Always good dreams."

Date: 2007-04-30 12:27 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] shattermelt.livejournal.com
Kippei murmured a sleepy sound that might have been agreement or simply content, curling into Shinji and closing his arms tightly around him, making sure that Shinji didn't go anywhere while he slept.

Mine, he thought, but maybe it meant something else altogether.

From: [identity profile] ayretala.livejournal.com
Shinji just smiled and kissed the top of Kippei's head, happiest when Kippei held on as tight as he could. He relaxed into the blankets and figured he had better get some sleep if he was going to go to work with Kippei; he was only going to get a few hours at best but he could nap while Kippei worked.

"Sweet dreams, beautiful," he murmured, stroking a hand up and down Kippei's spine and drifting, not thinking and just enjoying.

Date: 2007-04-30 12:38 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] shattermelt.livejournal.com
Kippei had actually talked to Sam like he'd promised Shinji, and he didn't have to go in as early tomorrow, not until noon in fact, so Shinji was going to get more sleep than he thought, but Kippei was too far asleep at the moment to remember to tell him that, or even to object to Shinji's words. Beautiful, yeah right.

Date: 2007-04-30 12:42 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] ayretala.livejournal.com
Shinji didn't mind, cradling Kippei in his arms and not sleeping so much as drifting back and forth across the line between sleep and waking until the early hours when his hold on Kippei finally loosened and he slid down into it, deep into sleep with...yes, very good dreams.
