Shinji was still sore and blue and a bit cranky, and so Kippei went to training without him the next day. He wanted to talk to Shishido anyway, and he'd just as soon Shinji wasn't there for it.
He wasn't really angry with the other mutant. Mostly annoyed. Really, really annoyed. So when he strode into the training room and found Shishido waiting for him, he smiled grimly. Perfect.
"Hey, Wings," he greeted. "How's your boyfriend?" he asked, with a bit of an edge to his tone.

Date: 2006-02-20 12:59 am (UTC)Growling low in his throat, Shishido twirled the daggers in his hands and glared at the taller mutant, "Fine no thanks to you." He all but snarled, his wings fanned out. So much for vowing to himself to be sensible about this. "Just what the hell gives you the right to ask that after what you put him through? Bastard." And no it didn't matter to him if Ohtori was forced into it or not by Tachibana. What mattered is that he was crying after it.

Date: 2006-02-20 01:44 am (UTC)"Shouldn't I be asking you that?" he asked in a slow, lazy drawl. At odds with the relaxed tone, his eyes were sharp and focused, and he'd come for training after all, so he was slightly tense, ready for some kind of fight, though Shishido was a lot more upset than he'd been expecting. This could get interesting.

Date: 2006-02-20 02:00 am (UTC)Shishido wondered what the hell the other's problem was. Tachibana should be explaining his stupid actions concerning Ohtori not throwing questions back. The accusations that he had done something to hurt the other made Shishido more upset. Almost upset enough to attack his teammate, not enough to kill, or even badly injure, but certainly enough to show that he was pissed.
Waiting for the other to explain himself or to shut up and apologise for being an ass, Shishido shifted his weight from foot to foot, daggers loosely held at his side but poised to strike.

Date: 2006-02-20 02:38 am (UTC)Kippei knew his own faults, knew that he was arrogant and a jerk and sometimes he had a violent temper and he did things like killing people and he just didn't care--didn't care, really, about most things. Some people considered that a fault. So it wasn't like he didn't agree when Shishido called him a bastard for taking Ohtori along; it had been Shinji's idea and Shinji had been the one who forced him to cooperate, but that was irrelevant. He was still a bastard for allowing Bolt to go in the first place.
He knew that. But if there was one thing that nobody could hold against him or consider a failure, it was taking care of Shinji. He had every right to be an overprotective ass of a boyfriend if he wanted to. Shinji would probably take exception if he overdid it, but still, if he wanted to risk that, he did have the right.
Shishido did not, because he was a featherbrained idiot sometimes, and he'd made Ohtori miserable on numerous occasions, and was so flighty that Shinji was thinking Ohtori might prefer to kiss Blackguard rather than let Shishido hurt him one more time, and Kippei was getting tired of it.
"'Just what the hell gives you the right to ask that after what you put him through, bastard?'" he echoed dryly, a faintly mocking tone in his voice. He folded his arms, seemingly ignoring the threat of the other's position. "I know what I've done, and that's my affair--you've no right to ask me about it when you've given him just as much hell."

Date: 2006-02-20 03:04 am (UTC)"But if you're going to be nosey, I love him, and I'd never hurt him so stop saying I would!" Shishido hissed, flying at Tachibana, "You're the one who made him kill someone he liked!" He swiped at him with his dagger, though he hardly expected to connect with anything. It was more a warning to back off.

Date: 2006-02-20 10:19 pm (UTC)"You say that, but you already have," he answered with a touch of scorn. "You can call it whatever you want, but you were flirting with Oshitari and Saeki in my journal. Even though supposedly you have a boyfriend," he growled, sounding annoyed. He stood a pace back from Shishido, flexing his hands and glaring. God, was he really that clueless?
"Shinji doesn't tell me things. He would if I asked, probably, but I don't ask. I'm talking about what I'VE seen. I don't know what's in your head, but whatever it is, it doesn't fit MY definition of love. If you're with someone you really care about, you don't go around practically cheating on them. It's no wonder he doesn't trust you," Kippei finished with a snort.
"Maybe it's none of my business, but if you make him miserable Shinji will care, and that IS my business. So stop fucking around with him. If you really love him, start acting like it matters."

Date: 2006-02-20 11:39 pm (UTC)"And just because I don't go around declaring my love to Choutarou to anyone who will listen doesn't mean I don't care and that I don't show it." Shishido growled. Ohtori knew how much he loved him and would do anything for him. And yeah, they had a couple rocky starts, but they were good now. And Ohtori certainly hadn't said anything about the way he talked to others in comments so he didn't see why Tachibana felt the need to. He twirled the daggers around in his hand, staring the other down. What a bastard.

Date: 2006-02-21 01:41 am (UTC)He was keeping a wary eye on the other's movements, ready to duck or lunge or tackle and disarm him if necessary. Shishido didn't appear to be ready to attack him, but that could change. Especially since he wasn't really listening and didn't seem to like anything Kippei was saying. That was fine. Kippei hadn't expected him to like it. He was going to tell him anyway, because it was time somebody did.
"Maybe you do care and maybe you show it, but you're inconsistent and undependable. My point is, if you want to get all in my face and protective and defend his honor, you damn well better do a better job of taking care of him yourself. Don't talk to me about what I've done when you take him so lightly. As far as I'm concerned, you don't have the right." His lip curled briefly in something like contempt; he was losing patience, such little as he'd had in the first place, with Shishido's obtuseness.

Date: 2006-02-21 01:52 am (UTC)"And it doesn't matter what they call it or why they do it. The point is they're friends and I'm not flirting back!" Did Tachibana even know what flirting looked like? Because seriously, bickering with Oshitari was not it.
But just as Shishido thought that Tachibana was as far off his rocker as he could get he went and said that. "Bastard! I love him and I never take him for granted. Take that back!!" Shishido hollered dropping his daggers and throwing himself at Tachibana to tackle him. A tactic that might have worked better if Tachibana wasn't taller than him and more solid, but he did have speed as an advantage.

Date: 2006-02-21 03:40 am (UTC)Kippei grinned fiercely as he met Shishido's flying tackle with outstretched hands, absorbing his weight and twisting, using his momentum to spin him around and drop him to the mat, knocking the wind out of him. Kippei was momentarily impressed; the winged mutant must have been going fast,, to hit the ground that hard. However, this wasn't about a physical brawl, yet. Kippei himself was not angry enough to forget that he'd been trying to make a point.
"I didn't say you take him for granted. I said you take him lightly. You're not serious enough about him."

Date: 2006-02-21 02:16 pm (UTC)Standing up he went and retrieved his daggers and tucked them into their holders before looking back at Tachibana. "Look, he knows me, and he loves me for my faults, and I love him. So I don't know where you get off critizing us but it's annoying as hell." He lifted fiery blue eyes up to Tachibana's, "And just for the record I'm still fucking mad at you."

Date: 2006-02-21 11:05 pm (UTC)"Have you asked him?" he asked finally, in a slow, considering voice like he was working something out. "If he minds," he clarified.

Date: 2006-02-22 12:33 am (UTC)Right, that statement probably didn't help, since Shishido seemed to think that Kippei overreacted about that kind of thing, and maybe he did, but he was sure that he wasn't the only one who thought that the winged mutant had been flirting with practically anyone that hit on him--and people like Saeki and Oshitari did it for pure amusement, because Shishido was so easily baited. It bothered Kippei just to watch it, but maybe the other was right and Ohtori really didn't mind.
"Whatever you want to call it, it looks like flirting to everyone else--not just me. If your boyfriend doesn't mind, then fine, whatever, but he doesn't strike me as the type to say if he did mind. And," Kippei added with a sharp glance at Shishido's angry face, "I know it's none of my business." He shrugged. "Just don't want to see you make the kid unhappy, whether he says so or not."

Date: 2006-02-22 01:09 am (UTC)"But you have to make sure Shinji doesn't use Choutarou as a human battery unless he wants to be a human battery." Shishido did not want to see a crying Ohtori again, or one that felt like he was less than worthy to be with him. His hands went around the hilts of his daggers again, clenching them, but not pulling them back out, even if he was tempted.

Date: 2006-02-22 01:45 am (UTC)"Sorry he had so much trouble with it. I like the kid but he's not mine to protect, and Shinji needed his help. Next time, we'll ask you first. Assuming by then you've talked to him about the other thing." Kippei eyed him, wondering if he really was going to ask, and decided it didn't matter. Shishido just really didn't get it.

Date: 2006-02-22 01:59 am (UTC)"You fucking idiot!" He yelled as he moved to swipe at the other again. "You'll ask me? You're sorry he had trouble? You can't be bothered to protect him? What your quota filled up with one?!" He hollered vehemently as he attempted another slash, trying to avoid Tachibana's muscled arms and legs from connecting with him. He knew when Tachibana caught him, which he probably would, he'd end up with a few nice new bruises, but right now he didn't care. Right now he was pissed, and for once it wasn't for himself but for Ohtori.

Date: 2006-02-23 06:17 am (UTC)"I didn't say that! It's not my job to know what he can or can't handle, and keep him out of trouble. He shouldn't be fighting with Blackguard if he can't handle the missions, and it's not my responsibility to know if he does it anyway. YOU have nothing to say about it either; it's not my fault if you're not paying close enough attention!"
Shishido was really ticking him off, acting like it was his responsibility to watch Ohtori and make sure he was okay with things. Kippei had assumed that Ohtori was just being reluctant out of some misguided moral streak, and would see sense if Shinji removed his mental blocks. Apparently that was not the case, but that wasn't his fault. If Shishido had known that, he was the one who should have done something about it, but as usual he was blind to things that he should be paying attention to.

Date: 2006-02-25 03:57 am (UTC)"I can't keep Choutarou away from Blackguard anymore than you can keep Shinji away from Oshitari." Shisihdo countered, wings flapping in aggitation behind him as he prepared his next move. "And if you haven't noticed I fucking sleep my day away so it's not my fault I can't pay attention every single second." He knew that, but it still pissed him off, and it pissed him off even more that Tachibana was once again judging him.
He lunged at Tachibana again, trying to get the other off his feet so he'd have a better chance at beating the crap out of him.

Date: 2006-02-25 04:25 am (UTC)"I don't mean that kind of attention, I mean fucking notice things! Maybe I was wrong, maybe you do take him for granted. Do you ever even think about how your actions affect him? I'm not saying you should keep him away from Blackguard, although if I was you I'd try a damn sight harder, what I'm saying is if you were keeping a closer eye on him you'd know things that you're missing." He knocked away another nasty sweep of a dagger, but he wasn't quite fast enough, and the blade caught his arm in a long shallow gash. He ignored it, following through to grab Shishido's wrist and twist it, forcing him to drop the knife as he leaned closer, glaring into the shorter man's face.
"Oshitari's not hurting Shinji or making him do things he doesn't really want to," Kippei gritted through his teeth. "If he was, I'd bloody kill him."

Date: 2006-02-25 05:02 am (UTC)"Let me go already." Shishido said squirming and directing a kick towards Tachibana's shins.

Date: 2006-02-25 05:57 am (UTC)"Fair enough," he answered coolly. "You're not me, fine. I'm not you, either. So don't expect me to take care of your boyfriend for you; you don't hold me up to your standards and I won't hold you up to mine." By his standards Shishido was a pretty lousy boyfriend, but that was their affair, he supposed.
Maybe Shishido was right and Ohtori did like him that way, in which case it was none of Kippei's business, but neither was it his business to babysit the kid and make sure he wasn't freaking out on a mission he shouldn't have had a problem with. If Ohtori was that fragile then he shouldn't be working for Blackguard, plain and simple.

Date: 2006-02-25 05:07 pm (UTC)"Look, I'm done here. We're not going to get any training done anyway. I'm going to go back to my boyfriend who I neglect now." Shishido said shaking out his wings and moving towards the exit, not even bothering with his water bottle or towle, he was too annoyed. And some of Tachibana's words were annoyingly stuck in his head.
